Can Kerry and Zarif Give Peace a Dance?

On Thursday September 19, 2013, Ploughshares Fund helped launchGive Peace a Dance,” an online video featuring Iranian American comedian, Maz Jobrani, and Jewish stand-up comedian/actor, Elon Gold, who urged world leaders to opt for a diplomatic approach to Iran’s nuclear program.

In just five days, Give Peace a Dance has attracted over 120,000 views on YouTube and has inspired over 3,200 people from all over the world to urge their world leaders to stand up for peace. We were delighted to see the creativity and dedication people have displayed in their “Give Peace a Dance” home productions. Here are some of our favorites:

The original “Give Peace a Dance” was released in conjunction with the start of U.N. General Assembly meetings. The State Department has announced its willingness to work with the newly elected Iranian President to reach a diplomatic solution, with a meeting expected Thursday between Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. This will be the highest-level contact between the two countries since 1979.

Let’s hope our policymakers can—like many of you—put one foot in front of the other and give peace a dance.
