Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller delivered opening remarks on behalf of the United States at the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference. Gottemoeller reaffirmed U.S. commitments to negotiating a START follow-on and a global verifiable fissile material cut-off treaty, in addition to pursuing ratification of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty [2]. Gottemoeller also stated that "Universal adherence to the NPT itself--including by India, Israel, Pakistan, and North Korea--also remains a fundamental objective of the United States." This speech sets the stage for enhanced cooperation between NPT parties in the pursuit of a bold agenda for the 2010 Review Conference.
