CNN reports that the Department of Energy honored the National Nuclear Security Administration for its work on the National Ignition Facility (NIF), the world's largest laser, b at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, for management excellence, despite its being eight years behind schedule and over $3.5 billion over budget. Lou Dobbs interviews Ingrid Drake [2] of the Ploughshares-funded watchdog group Project on Government Oversight [3], who says that "the days of being 600 times over budget are over." Tri-Valley CAREs' Marylia Kelley [4]also spoke out [5] against the nuclear weapons project, warning that it poses health and environmental dangers to the workers and residents in the Bay Area.
