The Newshour's [2] Margaret Warner turned to Ploughshares Fund board member Reza Aslan [3] and grantee David Albright [4] for analysis of the week's events in Iran. While both agreed that some of President Ahmadinejad's claims of progress on the nuclear front [5] were "laughable," they differed on the signficance of the announcement. Also joining the conversation was Flynt Leverett [6] of the New American Foundation [7], who downplayed the pro-reform movement in Iran. Aslan acknowledged that while "nobody is talking about regime change or the collapse of the government," he insisted that the movement "could conceivably create a government that's more open, less internationally isolated; that is more democratic than it is today," and could give rise to an Iran that is more integrated into the international community.
