The U.S. Government Printing Office [2]inadvertently published a highly sensitive but unclassified draft declaration to the International Atomic Energy Agency [3], disclosing addresses and specifications of U.S. nuclear weapons-related facilities. David Albright [4]of the Ploughshares-funded Institute for Science and International Security [5]commented, "It's a mistake and it should not have been released, especially not with 'safeguards/confidential' still written on it." But he added, "It’s probably more embarrassing than dangerous."
However, Steven Aftergood [6]of the Federation of American Scientists [7], another Ploughshares grantee, praised the publication of the document, saying, "It is a rather comprehensive selection of data on hundreds of U.S. nuclear sites and activities in a single document. It is important as a reference document. It is important as an indication of U.S. engagement in the arms control process." Aftergood told Homeland Security Today [8]that “as I read the document, it does not reveal either sensitive technologies or sensitive security-related information.”
