Bannister Federal Complex, a nuclear-weapon components plant in Kansas, is scheduled to be replaced under a joint venture development plan. However, a coalition including Ploughshares grantees Natural Resources Defense Council [2], Nuclear Watch New Mexico [3]and others has filed a federal lawsuit, claiming the plan to replace the facility neglects the hundreds of millions of dollars it would cost to clean up the old Bannister plant. Jay Coghlan [4]of Nuclear Watch New Mexico [3]said the litigants are asking for a ruling from the judge in May to stop the project.
