Annual Report 2012
Since our inception in 1981, Ploughshares Fund has given over $80 million in grants to the smartest and most innovative individuals and organizations working toward our vision of a world where nuclear weapons are never used again.
This year we realized some hard-fought victories – even in an election year in which most tough decisions were kicked down the road. Together with our stellar grantees and support from people like you, we made significant gains:
- We helped prevent a new war in the Middle East;
- We promoted negotiated solutions to nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea;
- We exposed the waste in the nuclear weapons budget; and
- We brought new faces and new voices into the field, all calling for a world free of the threat of nuclear weapons.
While our past funding has brought us great success, there is still work to be done. Throughout 2012, we've refined our approach toward grantmaking in order to deliver an investment strategy that maximizes our supporters' contributions while maintaining and building a community that is ready, willing and able to tackle the challenges ahead. We present this strategy to you, our supporters and friends, in this report and hope that you will join us in shaping a future without nuclear weapons.
