San Francisco, CA & Washington, DC: The global security foundation Ploughshares Fund welcomes Terry Gamble Boyer of San Francisco, CA as new Chair of its Board of Directors. She has served on the Ploughshares Fund Board of Directors since 2011, and succeeds out-going chair Mary Lloyd Estrin of Los Angeles, CA.

Gamble Boyer assumes the chair of a board that is comprised of a group of experts, philanthropists and leaders, including Amb. Pamela Hamamoto, Amb. Samuel Heins, Ben Rhodes and Eric Schlosser.

Terry Gamble Boyer is a writer and philanthropist. Along with her husband Peter, she cofounded the Caldera Foundation that concentrates on energy and the environment. In addition to the Ploughshares Fund board, she also serves on the board of Island Press and the advisory boards of Mesa Refuge and The Truman National Security Project. Terry is the author of three novels: The Water Dancers, Good Family, and the upcoming The Eulogist.

“Mary Lloyd Estrin was an outstanding chair of our board for the past 29 years and I just loved working with her,” said Joe Cirincione, President of Ploughshares Fund. “Terry is a worthy successor. Not only is Terry an experienced philanthropist with a keen understanding of how to deploy our resources to their greatest advantage, she is widely respected for her tenacity and compassion. Her leadership and dedication to our shared vision of building a future free of nuclear threats comes at a critical time. We all need to be informed, committed and united to combat the new and renewed nuclear dangers.”

“We very much look forward to Terry Gamble Boyer taking on her new role as board chair,” said Philip Yun, Ploughshares Fund’s Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. “She has headed many capital campaigns and is well thought of in San Francisco circles. There is no doubt that we face challenging times ahead and Terry is more than qualified to lead us in this new era. Mary Estrin will be dearly missed, and we are honored that she continues as a Chair Emeritus for Ploughshares Fund.”
