Chuck Hagel, Jeff Skoll join Ploughshares Fund boards
The Ploughshares Fund welcomes former Sen. Chuck Hagel to the Board of Directors and Jeff Skoll to the Board of Advisors. Skoll is founding president of eBay, as well as founder of the newly-launched Skoll Urgent Threats Fund. Sen. Hagel (R-NE) served in the U.S. Senate from 1996 to 2008, and currently serves as chairman of the Atlantic Council of the United States.
“Senator Hagel is revered by colleagues on both sides of the aisle and around the world,” said Ploughshares President Joe Cirincione. “He has served his country in Vietnam, in the Senate, and now as a champion of global engagement and a new direction in American security policy." Senator Hagel is also a strong supporter of Global Zero, a Ploughshares-funded initiative to eliminate nuclear weapons globally.
Jeff Skoll, founder and chairman of the Skoll Foundation and Participant Media, accepted Ploughshares Fund's invitation to join its advisory board the same day that he launched the Skoll Urgent Threats Fund, a new organization that will identify and support innovative high-impact initiatives to combat nuclear proliferation, climate change, water scarcity, pandemics and Middle East conflict.
