"Living at the Nuclear Brink: Yesterday and Today" was a free online course recently offered by William J. Perry, the 19th Secretary of Defense for the United States. The key goals of the course were to warn people of the dangers they face and to give them some insight on what could be done to avoid those dangers.
Dr. Perry's challenge in this course was to make vivid to participants "that the dangers of nuclear weapons, far from being historical curiosities, are existential dangers today." Participants had the opportunity to engage in discussions about these topics with both world experts and peers from around the globe. The final course was recorded at the Ploughshares Fund's Washington DC offices, and consisted of a lively conversation and dialogue, which you can watch in the video. In addition to William J. Perry, the conversation included nuclear weapons experts Joe Cirincione, president of Ploughshares Fund, and Tom Collina, our director of policy.
The course had no prerequisites and was offered online for free through Stanford University.
This lively recording is from December 6, 2016. The final dialogue of Living at the Nuclear Brink, which you can watch above, takes you right to the heart of one of the largest challenges and threats to organized human society. Enjoy, and learn how you can participate. Signing up to receive news and alerts from Ploughshares Fund is a great place to start.
Enjoy.
