Applying For a Grant
Ploughshares supports organizations and individuals
working to reduce nuclear threats.
Please read our Funding Priorities to determine if your project fits into our areas of interest.
Ploughshares is unique in that we place few restrictions on our grantmaking:
- We can fund international organizations.
- We are able to fund direct and grassroots lobbying.
- We make grants to individuals.
- We encourage women and people from diverse communities to apply.
Please note that we do not fund scholarships or the research and writing of dissertations or books. Ploughshares does not cover overhead costs at academic institutions. Funding for the production of films, videos, and art projects will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
Ploughshares is committed to ensuring our grantmaking contributes to a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible (DEIA) nuclear field. As part of this commitment, our applications for funding include a set of optional questions related to DEIA. Any information provided will be kept strictly confidential and omitting the questions will not impact the outcome of your application. We gather this information to gain a better understanding of the projects we fund. Please review the FAQ at the bottom of this page for additional information or reach out to us with any questions.
How to Apply
Applications for the Summer cycle will open in Spring 2026.

When to Apply
The funding cycle for Fall 2025 is now closed. The next cycle will open in Spring 2026.
We encourage prospective applicants to review our Funding Priorities prior to submitting a grant proposal to ensure it meets our areas of interest.
Between board meetings, Ploughshares staff have the ability to make discretionary grants up to $50,000. These discretionary grants typically support urgent projects related to our highest priority funding areas. If you believe your project aligns with these guidelines, please submit an inquiry to the program team with a brief description and a topline budget figure. We will let you know if a full proposal is appropriate.
Applicants may visit the Ploughshares grantee portal at any time to check on the status of their proposal or current grants.
