Applying For a Grant
Ploughshares supports organizations and individuals working to build a safe, secure, nuclear weapons-free world.
Please read our Funding Priorities to determine if your project fits into our areas of interest.
Ploughshares is unique in that we place very few restrictions on our grantmaking:
- There are no geographical limitations on our grants.
- We are able to fund direct lobbying programs.
- We make grants to individuals.
- We encourage women and people from diverse communities to apply.
Please note that we do not fund the production of films, videos, books, art projects, provide scholarships or the research and writing of academic dissertations.
Before you apply for a grant, please connect with us to answer any questions you might have and to make your application process easier. Please contact Kaite Lower at klower@ploughshares.org to arrange a meeting.

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility
Ploughshares is committed to ensuring our grantmaking contributes to a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible (DEIA) nuclear field. As part of this commitment, we have updated all of our applications for funding to include a new set of questions related to DEIA based on the values that underpin our work. Any information provided will be maintained in a strictly confidential manner and is voluntary to provide. Choosing not to answer these questions will not negatively affect the outcome of your application for funding. We are gathering this information to gain a better understanding of the projects we fund. Instructions related to the specific questions can be found within our applications. Please also review our FAQ at the bottom of this page for additional information or reach out to us with any questions.
How to Apply
Funding applications to Ploughshares must be submitted online. Applications for the fall cycle are open from July 21 until August 25.

When to Apply
The current funding cycle is for Fall 2025. The application is open from July 21, 2025, until August 25, 2025.
We encourage prospective applicants to contact our Program team prior to submitting a grant proposal to ensure it meets our areas of interest.
Between board meetings, Ploughshares staff have the ability to make discretionary grants up to $50,000. These discretionary grants are used to support urgent projects related to our highest priority funding areas. If you believe your project aligns with these guidelines, please submit an inquiry to the program team with a brief description of you project. We will let you know if a full proposal is appropriate.
Applicants may visit the Ploughshares grantee portal at any time to check on the status of their proposal or existing grants.
