Over the past three years, Ploughshares Fund has significantly expanded our investments in grassroots organizations. Grantees include influential national organizations as well as local groups focused on nuclear issues.
Grassroots work by Ploughshares Fund grantees (including MoveOn.org, Indivisible, Council for a Livable World, Friends Committee on National Legislation, Global Zero, J Street, National Iranian American Council, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Tri-Valley CAREs, Union of Concerned Scientists and Win Without War) were key to two significant legislative victories in 2019: votes in the House to cancel funding for the low-yield D5 nuclear warhead and to prohibit unauthorized military strikes against Iran.
Recently, after President Trump's assassination of Qasem Soleimani brought us to the brink of war with Iran, the anti-war majority in this country showed up at more the 350 events nationwide to say #NoWarWithIran. Our grassroots partners helped make this happen and the protests were led by grantees such as MoveOn.org, Win Without War, NIAC Action, and J Street Education Fund. We are proud to support grassroots advocacy in matters of war and peace, and the promotion of diplomatic solutions to the existential challenge of nuclear weapons.
