Increased activity at North Korean nuclear missile sites

A South Korean newspaper reported an increase in people and vehicle traffic at the site of North Korea's October 2006 nuclear test, potentially in preparation for another underground test. The paper also reported accelerated construction at a new long-range missile launch site at Donchang-ri. Stephen Bosworth, the top U.S. envoy on North Korea, said in Beijing that the Obama administration still hopes for direct engagement with Pyongyang. While North Korea likely needs two years to resume operations at its Yongbyon complex, the reprocessing cells may be used almost immediately, according to experts.  Jim Walsh of the Ploughshares-funded Massachusetts Institute of Technology estimates the North already has between five and 12 nuclear weapons.
