Pakistan: Defending the Arsenal

In this week’s New Yorker magazine, journalist Seymour Hirsch explores the security of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons in an increasingly volatile environment.  He interviews former Ploughshares Fund grantee Pervez Hoodbhoy.  Hoodbhoy, an eminent nuclear physicist in Pakistan said that “nuclear weapons are only as safe as the people who handle them.”  He has long raised concerns about the the danger that militants inside the Pakistani army pose to nuclear security. (Hoodbhoy was profiled in Ploughshares Fund's 2006 Annual Report as one of our heroes of the past 25 years.)
