Reports question U.S. missile shield in Europe

The proposed U.S. missile defense system in Europe would cost billions and still may fail. David Wright of the Union of Concerned Scientists does “not believe with any confidence that this system would be able to stop a nuclear attack.”  Independent technical analysis shows simple countermeasures such as balloons could fool the system, Wright says. The successful tests "have all been scripted for success," added Philip Coyle, senior advisor at the Ploughshares-funded Center for Defense Information.
