Sweden, Poland call for cuts in tactical nuclear weapons

As he prepared to address the Global Zero summit in Paris this week, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt joined with his Polish counterpart, Radek Sikorski in urging  the U.S. and Russia to sharply reduce their arsenals of tactical nuclear weapons.  In an op-ed published in the New York Times, they said that the time has come for an arms control regime to also cover tactical weapons, which are designed to be used on the battlefield rather than placed on intercontinental ballistic missiles.  Although Russian President Dmitry Medvedev also endorsed the Global Zero process, concerns have arisen about the future of Russia's tactical nuclear arsenal.
