US missile defense system 'a problem for Russia'

Russian Prime Minister Vladmir Putin says U.S. plans for a missile defense system is the main obstacle for reaching a new deal with the U.S. on reducing Cold War nuclear arms arsenals.Ivan Oelrich  of the Ploughshares-funded Federation of American Scientists told Russia Today interviewer that "I opposed the ballistic missiles defense system both for the strategic reasons and also because I don’t think it will work.”  He continued, “The Russians are making a tactical mistake here, because they’re making a big deal out of something that I think and a lot of scientists outside the government think simply won’t work. Presumably they claim it’s valuable, we’re going to insist that they give up something that’s valuable in exchange for something that isn’t very valuable.”
