Tauscher appointed to top arms control post

Rep. Ellen Tauscher (D-Calif.) was appointed undersecretary of state for arms control and international security, heralding a return to negotiated disarmament accords and strengthened international norms on nuclear proliferation.  Tauscher is widely respected for her longtime interest in disarmament and nonproliferation issues. The highly regarded Robert Einhorn of Ploughshares-funded Center for Strategic and International Studies was slated to get the job, but reportedly asked to be removed from consideration for personal reasons.
