'Historic' nuclear talks with Iran yield progress

Agreement was reached today in Geneva for Iran to ship some 90% of its low enriched uranium stockpile to Russia.  Politico's Laura Rozen reports that Iran watchers in Washington believe that President Obama's announcement of the agreement suggest that the U.S. and Iran may be reaching an accomodation. "They note Obama administration officials talking in recent days of a 'verifiably peaceful' Iranian nuclear energy program, opened up to international inspectors, as opposed to Bush-era demands that Iran end its enrichment program entirely."  Trita Parsi of the Ploughshares-funded National Iranian American Council said that the announcement "seems to open up the issue towards accepting the reality of Iranian enrichment." Talking about making Iran's nuclear program verifiably peaceful "opens up things significantly," Parsi said. "It makes the focus on inspections and verification," as opposed to Iran ending its program. "That is where it should be. That is progress."
