World leaders call for global zero: an end to all nuclear weapons

President Jimmy Carter, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev, Bishop Desmond Tutu this week launched a campaign calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons.  The campaign, Global Zero, received early support from Ploughshares Fund.  Meeting today in Paris, 100 past and current world leaders signed a declaration imploring the U.S. and Russia to slash their nuclear arsenals and for a worldwide verification and enforcement system and a phased reduction leading to elimination of all nuclear stockpiles.  Ploughshares Fund President Joseph Cirincione attended the launch where he moderated a panel that included Queen Noor, Margaret Beckett, Richard Branson and others.
