Ploughshares is invested in ensuring that people recognize the nuclear threat is real. It’s not science-fiction or the plot of a movie set in the Cold War. It exists. It’s here. In many ways, it’s harder today to make progress on reducing the nuclear threat, despite the devastating effects that would result from a nuclear accident or nuclear warfare.
Despite the danger, we have found many people don’t list the nuclear threat in their top 10 areas of concern. We’re out to change that. And we believe the path to change comes through knowledge. How do people learn best? Through stories.
We recently partnered with the Nuclear Threat Initiative to produce Rewriting the Narrative on Nuclear Weapons, an adaptable and user-friendly resource for awareness-building, advocacy, and activation efforts to reduce nuclear threats and advance the goal of eliminating nuclear weapons.
This practical, research-based guide is designed to help advocates position the audience as the hero, build relevance and trust, connect through shared values, express both urgency and hope, and articulate a clear vision forward.
